Ingesting its title from either Cape Breton, a virtually all easterly point of a island which was known as when either the Bretons of England or the Bretons of Brittany, this municipality has what is probably the oldest living European title to stand been utilized to designate a portion of N United states.

By proclamation of October 17, 1763 when termination of the Seven Years War, Cape Breton Island was formally annexed to Nova Scotia. For the instance thenceforth Cape Breton Island was a portion of Halifax County. In December 10, 1765 Cape Breton Island was placed apart as a separate county.

From either 1784 to 1820 Cape Breton Isl& was the separate colony by using the Lieutenant Governor and the nominative Council, however forswearing an elective home of assembly. A resultant Cape Breton Regional Municipality's (CBRM) boundary includes all of Cape Breton County except for the Eskasoni & Membertou 1st Nations.
